"Dug"

How could I end the day without telling you all 'aboot ma dug'?!
See, my dug,
She’s naw right
In the noggin.
Tea
Or coffee in my hand.
It doesn't matter,
As with a pant and a sigh
She lands
In my lap.
Anything goes, anything spills,
On my sofa and then I sigh!
She's too big
For a friggin’
Lap dog.
She acts
Just like she’s a nutty cat,
Curlin’ in a ball for a pat.
But, man o man,
She lacks the style
And grace.
She drives me mad
For a mile.
She ignores recall,
And so begins the chase…
For
One thousand seven hundred
And sixty yards.
She’s mentally ill,
I swear.
I can’t deny -
She’s rare
For being such a walloper.
If I go to the bathroom,
She cries and
Howls at the moon.
When I shut the door,
Jeez,
Scratchin' the door to the core -
"Gie us peace!"
I can’t get no sleep -
No, I ain’t Faithless but
Just jammed in between
Four horse shins!
If she weren’t
Sae fecking daft then
I might naw be sae saft!
But a dug’s for life
And you’re in mine,
So...
“Sigh!”
You’re gonna be just fine.
Picture of my mental dug, and we're two peas in a pod :)

This is such an adorable poem. I can just imagine how much your Dug is devoted to you. Such a loyal friend.
Very much enjoyed your poem with your great sense of humour.

I love this poem and the pic
I love this poem and the pic and had a dog very similar to yours - body the size of a very large golden retriever cross(ed with wolf?) but in her head she was tiny and could curl up anywhere
You are very lucky to have her!

This is sweet. I lost my old
This is sweet. I lost my old Alsation last month, and can just get through the day without bawling now (back end went). So I made a beeline for this one. What a brilliant poem. And the accent works great. Loved it.

"Scratchin' the door to the core.."
Made me think of my beloved collie cross.
A dug is for life that's for sure.
A beautiful pen picture captured so artfully through your poem. (For the love of dugs...)

What a wonderful poem, it
What a wonderful poem, it moves as the words bring her character to life. A real walloper. I know a very similar dog to this, he's a Griffon Pointer, also with horse shins. It's just brilliant! I'm sure it could be published in a collection of doggy poetry.
