Belfast And Broken Glass
By Paul McCann
From my hotel room I heard an awful boom
and I lay down on the bed .
There were riots on the streets outside
and bullets were claiming the dead .
There was a parcel lying at the G.P.O. i
t was ticking away inside ,
So I ran away down the Avenue
and I found a place to hide .
Belfast and broken glass ,
like a shattered dream
with no waking up it seemed
from the bloodbath in Belfast
but those times have gone
and things have moved on
and there’s peace at last
and the broken glass is seen no more
and there’s no gunmen knocking on the door
and no more screams like it was before .
So I bought a car and gave it some TLC
and went to see the city.
The troubles had gone
and there was no more broken glass that I could see .
Belfast and broken glass ,
like a shattered dream
with no waking up it seemed
from the bloodbath in Belfast
but those times have gone
and things have moved on
and there’s peace at last
and the broken glass is seen no more
and there’s no gunmen knocking on the door
and no more screams like it was before .
