Between Cloud Nine And The Land Of Nod
By Paul McCann
I paid all the debts that I had
I was beached upon a busy street
with no shoes upon my feet
and I watched the bluebirds take the maddening crowd away .
I drifted off like a kite into the sky upon a bike
and in a dream I saw the sun sinking in moonlight bay .
There were people on the rocks
having picnics from a box
and a man calling bingo numbers
for those who didn’t play .
All that was left were fish cakes in the sand
and bacon swimming in the pan
and a burden that I couldn’t drink all day .
.I tried to howl at the moon
It was late in the afternoon
and no one answered except
my echoes round the bay .
Time was moving on between cloud nine and the land of nod
and the mermaids tails were sweeping up the last waves of the day
I spoke to the saviour who was there
and asked for a little favour
for the lost son I never had to find his way.
The sound of voices screaming loud
came from a maddening crowd
who arrived with no welcome to the island on Moonlight bay .
I got back upon my bike and peddled off in fright
to a street where life seemed to be normal in a strange kind of way .
.

Hi Paul,
Hi Paul,
Some great imagined images in this poem. Reminded me of a topsy turvey dream world where anything is possible.
Also quite lyrical too.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Jenny.
