Christmas On The Road

Dialogue begins

Skate – "Keep an eye out Dags . The snows thick tonight ."

Dags- "Ease up on the pedal Skate , you're over the white line " .

Skate- "What are you talking about there is no white line, I've got thirty two wheels and I'm king of the road . Tomorrow is Christmas buddy and I'm ahead of time ."

Dags "You're still on the wrong side of the road buddy so pull up and have a rest . I'll take the wheel boss . It's ok , you've almost done your quota for the day . "

Skate -"That's just typical of you Dags , every time I'm getting comfortable at the wheel you want to jump ion my seat "

Dags - (Smans) " Skate , look at that , Santa's on the roof of the diner up ahead . "

Skate "What say we stop ion for a bit to eat Dags ?"

Dags -"You got it . I was just starting to get a little peckish you know .

I hope they've got some turkey on the menu tonight , I'm sick of those runny meat pies ."

Skate –"Yeah , I'll tell you what buddy what us trucker have to go through is sick . I'm so fed up with it Dags . (He pulls in to the all night diner and takes a swig from his can of caffeine ) I'm going to have a shower first , if you can wait for ten minutes . "

Dags –" No problem , I'll put the order in and take a seat . So are you having the runny pie or the turkey and mixed vegetables ?"

(Skate gets out and throws his empty can into the garbage bin at the door of the diner

Skate -"Well tell you what , I'll just go and see what's on the menu while you take a look around ."

Dags –"Yea I'm looking all right and all I see is an empty diner with a big fella wearing a red suit in the kitchen . What's his problem ?"

Skate -"Hey can wee have a bit of service out front please."

The cook appeared , he had a white beard and red suit .

"Cook "Ho Ho Ho , why hello there . Now tell me would you like a big Christmas cuddle , some food , or something from the list."

Dags- "What list ."

Cook –"The list that I've checked twice . Its got your name on it ."

Skate -"Hey Dags , I think Santa here has had a little something on his way to work , what do you say ."

Cook "There's no need to be rude so if you want to take that attitude with me then you can leave the diner right away ."

Dags "Hey don't get upset man , I'll have a cuddle ."

Skate –"' Can I have a shower key ."

Cook " After your shower I want you to make sure you pick up all the things

outside the cubical ok '"

Skate " Sure thing , whatever . In ten minutes I'll have the turkey and mixed vegetables . Make sure to add cranberry sauce on the side ."

The cook hands the shower key over . The truckie walks away to the showers .

Dags-"I'll wait over there and have the same as him .

Cook – "Anything else I can do . How would you like that cuddle now ."

Dags – "Aw come on do me a favour . "

The cook started to laugh aloud as Dags started to grow younger and younger by the second . In a few moments he was a little child again . He started to run around the diner in a state of euphoria . The cook in the red suit handed over a some toys from a big sack . Dags was overjoyed . There was a huge toy truck with his name on it and a cowboy hat with toy six guns in holsters Skate soon returned from the showers and he too was a child again . With a armful of toys he screamed

Skate -"Hey look what I got Dags , they were all on the floor outside the showers .

Dags-"Look at you Skate . You must be at least five years old "

Skate –"You know you're a little younger than me . I didn't know you had red hair ?"

Dags -"What is going on Skate ".

The cook started to laugh .

Cook " Don't ever think Santa doesn't care boys . This is my diner and it just so happens that you two were heading into a dangerous situation on the road so instead of you not getting home to Christmas , I though I would bring Christmas to you ".

Skate-"Don't get me wrong Santa but are we going to stay this young from now on because I have four kids and a wife at home who count on me being the Dad ."

Cook " Ho Ho Ho boys just for tonight you will stay in the diner and play like you did a long time ago .'

All through the night the two young boys played games and laughed . After a few hours they were so very tired that they fell fast asleep .

The night soon disappeared and in the morning they woke up in the truck outside on the side of the road .There was no sign of the diner .

Dags -"I have to tell you Skate , I had the craziest dream ."

Skate -" Me too , I'm giving up this caffeine , it doesn't agree with me . I dreamt I was a kid again ."

Dags –"Me too Skate . So how far do we have to go ."

Suddenly on the radio a report of a massive avalanche came over . All the highway up ahead was blocked . There had been massive damage to bridges and a damn had also burst

Skate –" Twenty five years I'be been driving this rig and never before have I heard anything g like this Dags . I'm thinking maybe we're not going to get this truck home until the new year now "

Dags -" I'm going to call the wife and kids and tell her what's going on . She'll be worried sick Skate . "

Skate . –"OK I'll do the same . I think we are going to need to keep a few things to ourselves Dags if you know what I mean ."

Dags -" No what do you mean ."

Skate pointed behind the drivers seat and there was a big toy truck with Dags name on it and two toy six shooters still the holsters . There was also a toy horse with a cowboy on its back . There was a pair of red roller skates with the name Skate all over them .

Skate -" I'm not saying a word about this to anybody . "

Dags " Suits me fine "

Skate " Happy Christmas Dags ."

Dags "Yeah how about a big Christmas cuddle Skate . "
