The woman weeps through the wind ,
the wind it carries her cry
I hear the sound of the wind ,
it brings a tear to my eye .

It’s a hungry cry
as the people die
all over the famine land .

The woman reaps the crops no more
for rocks are all that remain
as the wind it blows through the fields
tell me who is to blame
as the people cry

It’s a hungry cry
merciful God lend us a hand ,
can’t you hear a hungry cry

History speaks in Ireland,
the tear stained pages fulfil ,
don’t turn your back on the wind ,
our Mother is weeping still .

Every age turns back the page ,
History speaks in Ireland .
Can’t you hear a hungry cry ?
