In The Ruins Of Kilwarra Church
By Paul McCann
.
It was Mass time again in the ruins
and there was no parking on the street ,
In the ruins of Kilwarra Church
it was impossible to get a seat .
The call of the faithful was heard
and some had come there for the very first time .
A poet stood up in front of the crowd
and he started to recite a rhyme .
The congregation were singing in Latin
and all the hymn books had been lost.
There were no rafters to be lifted
and the old collection plates had been tossed .
After holy communion,
there was a final blessing to the chosen few,
In the moments before everyone parted
people smiled and said “God bless you “.
In the ruins of Kilwarra Church
there were no windows or door left to close .
It was hello and goodbye until next time
in the church where the soft wind blows.
