I’m heading out of town backwards
on a red rattler in the rain .
I’m heading out of town backwards
and I’m never coming back again ,
since she took my kids ran
things can’t be the same .

I’m heading out of town backwards
cause there’s nothing left round here
I’m heading out of town backwards
I gave away all my gear
for she took everything I ever had
now I think I just disappear .

Taking a step backwards right left at ease ,
taking a step backwards ,
Lord help me , won’t you please ,

I’m falling on my knees .

Lord I’m looking backwards with an ache in my heart
Lord I’m turning backwards
got to find a new place to start
Can’t you see me crying Lord
its tearing me apart .

I’m heading out of town backwards
and the train begins to shake .

the hurt I just can’t take ,
Backwards and straight ahead
where no one’s on the make .
