AN ASTONISHING FIND

PREFACE: I discovered this handwritten piece inside of a tatty wallet, buried in the handbag belonging to my Dearest Mum, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.
I was astonished....Now I know where my gift of writing originated.
I would like to share her one and only known piece of writing with you all.
WE MET AND MARRIED A LONG TIME AGO, WE WORKED LONG HOURS WHEN WAGES WERE LOW.
NO TV, NO WIRELESS, NO BATH. TIMES WERE HARD, JUST COLD TAPS AND A WALK UP THE YARD.
NO HOLIDAYS ABROAD, NO POSH CARPETS ON FLOORS, BUT WE HAD COAL ON THE FIRE AND WE DIDN'T LOCK DOORS.
OUR CHILDREN ARRIVED, NO PILLS IN THOSE DAYS AND WE BROUGHT THEM UP WITHOUT STATE AID.
THEY WERE QUITE SAFE TO GO OUT IN THE PARK, THEN OLD FOLK TOO COULD GO OUT IN THE DARK.
NO VALIUM, NO DRUGS AND NO LSD, WE CURED OUR ILLS WITH A NICE CUP OF TEA.
IF WE WERE SICK WE WERE TREATED AT ONCE, NO FILL UP A FORM AND COME BACK IN SIX MONTHS.
NO VANDALS, NO MUGGINGS, THERE WAS NOTHING TO ROB, BUT WE WERE RICH IF WE HAD A COUPLE OF BOB.
PEOPLE WERE HAPPIER IN THOSE FAR OFF DAYS, KINDER AND CARING IN SO MANY WAYS.
MILKMEN AND PAPERBOYS USED TO WHISTLE AND SING. A NIGHT AT THE PICTURES WAS HAVING A FLING.
WE ALL GET OUR SHARE OF TROUBLES AND STRIFE AND WE JUST HAVE TO FACE IT, THATS THE PATTERN OF LIFE.
WHEN I'ME ALONE, I LOOK BACK OVER THE YEARS, I DON'T THINK OF THE HARD TIMES, THE TROUBLES AND TEARS.
I REMEMBER THE BLESSINGS, OUR HOME, OUR LOVE AND ALL THAT WE SHARED TOGETHER...
AND I THANK THE GOOD LORD ABOVE.
Wyn xx A Devoted Wife and Mum.
