You are the poem that will never see daylight.
The walls peer over my shoulder in curiosity,
but I hide you away in the sheaths of my hands,
pin your words to the page like butterflies.
I remain fearful of your exposure,
just like the couple who occasionally gaze
upwards to the attic
where a bastard child
bumps against the walls.

I blush to admit, Magic that I saw the original film (based on John Fowles' book), way back in 1965 - starring Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar'. It was extremely menacing and made a lasting impression on me, as does your evocative poem.
Much enjoyed;-)

Hey Magic, sorry I am so late on commenting, had so much work. I really like this poem it is very well crafted as Chris said and chilling and very beautiful. :)
I love the first verse;
You are the poem that will never see daylight.
The walls peer over my shoulder in curiosity,
but I hide you away in the sheaths of my hands,
pin your words to the page like butterflies.
