Walking home from school.
My red jacket protecting me from the wind.
Decide to take a short cut
Away from the roar of the road
To the whispers of the forest path.
Pass the house on the corner.
The ginger cat grinning from the
Window sill like he knew
What was coming.
Wander on through the nettles.
Become aware of another set
Of footsteps shadowing
My own. And something
Hiding in the long grass.
Then realise even the trees are silent
As the world holds its breath.
The last thing I see is a flash
Of silver light as the crows leap
From the fields.
Know posters of my face will appear
over the next few weeks.
But it doesn’t matter.
I don’t live here anymore.
