We seek you out
when we are young.
What a reckless idea we had of fun.
When we find you
we fight, die, or run.
Just the idea of you
jubilates, intoxicates, excites.
Jeering at the night, scheming on sneakers and bikes.
Jumping off, thinking not of consequence.
Genuinely foolish, blissful might.
Now we’ve found you.
Newcomers flock, so they also try,
knowing if they dare too close, they die.
Knocking on the deadly door of living
in your moment, if only for a time.
