ADAM AND MOLLY

adam split and molly kuhl
early on, they met in school
and it was science that they loved
and being so, together, shoved
physics, math, biology
starred in physiology
what a brilliant lad and lass
finished tops among their class
left the university
into the world, went he and she
at research, they would take a stab
inside a top notch science lab
horn rimmed glasses, white lab coats
desks piled high with scribbled notes
dedicated to their art
driven, tireless, oh so smart
they yearned to win the nobel prize
they'd often stop and fantasize
that as a team, they posed a threat
to be the best the world'd seen yet
and to this end, they had a plan
to serve the betterment of man
they picked a subject in their field
when harvested, the greatest yield
they'd pin down scientific fact
to why the sexes would attract
was it a case of pheromones ?
or in an eyeball's rods and cones ?
or some exotic chemical
that brought out instincts, animal
and was it from the mind, it sprang
or bell-like from the heart, it rang
they wrote up papers, looked at slides
examined cells from every side
mixed elixirs, studied tomes
pondered, while they scratched their domes
they worked together day and night
but still they couldn't see the light
but then one night to their surprise
they looked into each other's eyes
a sparkle danced in both their pairs
they felt a rising of their hairs
as cupid gave a gentle shove
the two of them discovered love
and as emotions were released
their need for all this research ceased
there's things that science should not touch
like why two people love so much
they cast their work to other things
than why the act of ardor springs
they honeymooned for half a year
and then returned to their careers
alas, they'd win no nobel prize
but don't feel sorry for these guys
for twins were born to them, pray tell
one named noah, one named belle
