THE BRIDGE TO WHO KNOWS WHERE

i've been in this parade so long
most marchers have gone home
i walk the silent sidewalks
for i have more miles to roam
till knots unravel, loose at last
and truth is all laid bare
my toes are pointing forward
to the bridge to who knows where
the doors are shut, the shades are drawn
there's no sound from within
how can i know just where i'm bound
if unsure where i've been
for sometimes life throws things at you
for which you can't prepare
my arms are stretching forward
to the bridge to who knows where
and even though the night is dark
i calculate the place
where morning sun will rise at last
and give to me its grace
the center of my gravity
will find a balance there
my eyes are always searching
for the bridge to who knows where
