BUILDING SCARECROWS

we all have false bravado
it's a scarecrow that we build
but not compiled of straw
but with cold armor, it is filled

with arms and legs, akimbo
very rigid, thrust with force
but deep inside that armor
we are trembling, of course

our eyes are burning wildly
with a fierceness they acquire
they're shrieking, " PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME
YOU DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH FIRE ! "

it keeps away the evil crows
who yearn to come and feed
they want to peck away at you
and carry off your seed

but yet you must be careful
there are times that you must bend
inviting in the one
who may become a trusted friend

so please admit a hummingbird
a kind and gentle soul
they only want to love you
not to plunder and control

their wings will beat along with yours
like two accordant drums
and you will weave a melody
combining both your hums
