CATERPILLARS

i opened up my window
just to take a look outside
imagine my confusion
at the vision that i spied
.
a million caterpillars
were parading through the grass
perhaps a million more
were waiting for their chance to pass
.
a greenish swirling river
looking for a path to wend
transfixed, i stood there watching
till their march came to an end
.
i opened up my window
two days later, in the morn
imagine my amazement
at the life that was reborn
.
a million butterflies, now
were parading through the air
perhaps a million more
were looking for some room to spare
.
a lovely soaring rainbow
flying up to chase the sun
transfixed, i stood there watching
as of now, they're still not done
