when first we spent our nights in bed
our dozing frames would touch
but as the days turned into weeks
it wasn't near as much
.
your muscles, nerves and matter
held no longer by a spell
and i believe your heart and mind
have gone that way as well
.
we dallied in each other's dreams
and danced the whole night through
but laying here awake
i sense you dream of someone new
.
it's not like you are calling names
or purring in your sleep
but brought up to the surface
are some things that once dwelt deep
.
we once were like a river
in the ways we'd tease and flirt
but rocks thrown in the path
can make a mighty stream divert
.
you tell me that there's nothing wrong
but i don't think that's true
i search for you at night
but yet you dream of someone new
.
there must be ways to reconnect
our lives when not awake
but i keep getting vibes
that this is not a road you'll take
.
so in my dreams, i walk alone
adrift and cruelly tossed
beneath the landscape, blanketed
my sense of union lost
.
i'd never wander in my dreams
except in search of you
but i don't have a chance
because you dream of someone new
