EXPLODING PEN

i see my pen's exploded
in a spreading pool of blue
and why it self destructed ?
well, i haven't got a clue

perhaps it was unhappy
with the rhymes that i had chose
and simply bled on out
when opportunity arose

perhaps it was a traitor
and it knew right from the start
that it would cause destruction
when it blew itself apart

i look into that sea of blue
and here i must confess
i see a few unwritten poems
are swimming in that mess

i wonder if i'll capture them
or if they're gone for good
i'd dive right in and rescue them
but don't believe i could

the pens i have surviving
are quite shocked by its demise
but they're determined to write on
their sadness, they disguise

a funeral was held for it
a kleenex for a shroud
i laid it in a little box
and cried a bit aloud

i must admit i'm feeling sad
and i can surely tell
by looking at my sticky palm
my hand is blue as well
