IF SHE WERE A HYMN

if she were a hymn
like a bird on a limb
i would sing every note in my head

if she were a book
in my library nook
i would soak up each word that i read

if she were a stream
i would jump in, full steam
and would float all the way to the sea

if she were the sky
i would learn how to fly
and i hope she'd be noticing me

but i'm just a song
that was written all wrong
so why would she join me in verse

and i'm just a note
that an idiot wrote
to read it would be even worse

not even a creek
i'm a dribbling leak
that someone should dam with a plug

a scarred piece of ground
with no flowers around
that is not even fit for a bug

but loving, is she
of poor goofy old me
and at that i am truly amazed

her beautiful soul
makes me feel like i'm whole
she calms me when i am half crazed

i'm not really sure
what i'm doing for her
but she says that she loves me, no doubt

when i get unfurled
i'll inhabit her world
and at last we will figure it out
