the king is the authority
but he must have an heir
to sit upon the throne
the day his father isn't there
.
the child, full of security
the father, filled with fright
the king, plagued by insomnia
the prince sleeps through the night
.
the ruler of a country
has a power, absolute
but he must plant his seed
so that a new tree can take root
.
the youth is gifted lullabies
the elder, left with screams
the king has horrid nightmares
while the prince has splendid dreams
.
it's good to wear the crown
but soon the weight of it will bend
and when the prince becomes the king
his days of peace will end
.

Those who long for any
Those who long for any leadership, or criticize those who've been asked to exercise it, have little idea of the weight of the post or its 'crown' I think! Neat and thoughtful, especially the last verse. Rhiannon
