THE LAST STAR

when young, i'd gaze up to the skies
and see a million stars
a necklace full of diamonds
like the beams of motorcars
.
this vast parade of spheroids
dwindled down to less than two
the last star in my universe
i've set my eyes on you
.
i grew fond of astronomy
i learned that stars have names
i plucked a few down from the sky
and they became my flames
.
but you became so brilliant
i've no need for telescopes
the last star in my universe
on you, i've pinned my hopes
.
i often thought i'd be alone
beneath a murky sky
now, we're a constellation
bound together, you and i
.
i simply can't remember
all those others by the score
the last star in my universe
i'll love you evermore

yeh, cold stars plucked from
yeh, cold stars plucked from the firmament warm the heart, unless you grow apart.

Hi Alvin,
for some reason this poem reminded me of David Bowie. Thinking of his last album, though your poem shined very brightly when I read it and touched a part of my soul.
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.
