PERIPHERY

periphery, that's where i'll be
around the world, i'll orbit
sometimes i'll touch, but not too much
i don't wish to absorb it
.
the current there, i must beware
i'm not that great at swimming
the lights that shine could conquer mine
till things were quickly dimming
.
the gravity would burden me
i'd rather be a feather
i'd have to run to flee the sun
before my skin was leather
.
deep in this den, the oxygen
is much too harsh for breathing
the coursing crowd will curse aloud
i've no need for their seething
.
the universe may hold a curse
but i can grin and bear it
for you are near, my lovely dear
together we will share it
.
some think i'm mad or strangely sad
but this is not the story
i'm doing fine, your hand in mine
in that, i will find glory
