SIGN LANGUAGE

when one is born in silence
with no language to enhance
they pantomime in splendid rhyme
their fingers in a dance
.
when people do the hula
it is stories that they tell
revolving hips and fingertips
to catch you in their spell
.
when southerners are signing
it is said, they tend to drawl
their rhythms slowed,relaxing mode
conversing with y'all
.
a lifting of an eyebrow
indicates a yes or no
and shakes of head, or nods instead
is something we all know
.
when words defy expression
then the message is unsealed
with palm of hand, a blackboard stand
where letters are revealed
.
at times, communication
is a secret with no clue
a loving touch can mean so much
when nothing else will do

Where would we be without the language of sign? Your poem said it all Alvin.
Great read as always.
