a skeleton of love lies here
a vision, so obscene
a sign of flesh does not appear
for vultures picked it clean
the bones are bleached a ghostly white
they shimmer 'neath the moon
they used to be sweet colors, bright
that sang a lovely tune
the music, now, in silence reigns
no lyrics left to sing
no breath inside these stark remains
no joy that they can bring
a skeleton of love lies here
i sat and watched it die
and did i lift a finger, dear ?
i didn't even try
