Dogs everywhere. Panting, rolling, pawing each other. They hang by the shop. From time to time, the owner steps out, fires a gun and they run off. Small ones at the back. They go till they find something dead that reeks.
Maz turns from the window and wipes the binoculars. “That chihuahua’s right up in the ribcage”.
Maz’s eyes are bloodshot from days of rubbing. The conjunctivitis is painful but he can’t find the medicine. He bathes them instead in boiled water - four, five times a day. After the last time, he talks about going to the coast to find his sister. He hopes she’s safe, but these days that’s all we can hope.
