this book is about a young girl who,s eyes are as brown a coconut.who’s skin is as dark as copper. who’s hair is as brown as chocolate and as soft as silk.who,s feet are as fast as the cheetah and as quit as a mouse.who,s lip,s are as red as an apple.who,s hand,s are as fast as the wind. who,s face is indescribable beautiful. precess of the west tribe.and how she came to be as i have described? how is she a precess? well to tell you i must start from the very beginning.this is her story: Chief Peta and his neighboring tribe were planing a battle with the White-men. for the white-men were causing trouble for his tribe and the neighboring tribe. chief Peta as well as the neighboring tribe know that if the white men stayed in their land,s and hunted in their hunting ground,s any longer that they would have to leave their homeland, they were not willing to share their land with these white-men. ‘to marrow we fight!” said Chief Peta “yes we will show the white-men we do not want them here!” said Chief Taima . the tribe,s cheered.than they prepared for Battle. one of the scout,s from the white-men,s settlement over heard the conversation and quickly went back to the white-men to report what he had heard.”open the gate!” he cried the gate,s creaked open, he scrambled inside “what is it tom?”said one of the men “ the.........the...Indian,s they want war and tomorrow!’ he said still panting. Mr.Timothy and miss.Edith Hartford longed for a baby boy ever since they came to the settlement but had no children, when miss.Edith became pregnant they became desperate for a boy, when they finely had the child it was a girl they were greatly disappointed and quickly came to hate the child.they began to think of way,s how to get ride of her. one day when the Hartford,s were at dinner Edith said “i have an idea how we can get rid of this retched child,i will go to the other women in the settlement and ask if they would like this child” “yes but try to sound convincing dear” “i will try my best” Edith said wickedly. “Edith! you should be ashamed of your self!”said one of Edith,s friend,s after Edith told her why she had come. “No i will not take the child!” “even if i wanted to i cant. i have to many mouth,s to feed already!”.”but i could help!”.Edith blurted .”No! and that,s that!.Now good-bye Edith i must finish my house-work and feed the children”and with that she closed the door.Edith had no luck with the other women ether as much as she pleaded they would not take the child crestfallen Edith returned to her apartment to find her husband sitting at the dining table.”what are you doing here so early?”she said “waiting for you” he replied,he sounded like he had bean pondering something and his voice sounded distant.”has something happened?” she asked “you look terrible worried” “No, i must talk to you Edith an idea has struck me,sit down”so Edith sat down “One of are scout,s has come back,he said the Indians,s want war to-marrow the men say if you and the other women and children want to get to the big fort by dawn you better start packing now, and pack as little as you can” “What is you,r idea?”she pressed. “ you can secretly leave the child out side in the forest near a tree then join the other women and keep walking as if nothing had happened and if they see you have no child say you had left her on your horse and she is well protected. when you stop for a break go to the nearest tree and bundle the child in blankets and leave her there and then put blankets on the horse then keep going when you reach the fort start unpacking pretend to look for the child when you unpack the horse and still you can not find the child wale distress and pretend to cry” you are a smart women you can do the rest”then its settled then!”Edith said “i must make dinner later i will pack and i must feed the child”she finished with disgust. “you will see child that i will get read of you i will and when i do i will have my boy “ when she finished making the dinner she sat down and Fed the child. as if the child sensed her parents hatred for her the child began to wail and the mother cursed and after a few minutes she gave up feeding the child and put her in her crib.
Edith woke early and went to wake the child “the retch i wish i could leave her to the Indians!”then another wicked idea started to form in her mind.Edith know it was a risky plan but before she could change her mind she set out with the child to the Indian camp.chief Peta woke to the sound of his men arguing out side his tippy he rose quickly and went to see what the commotion was about he was surprised to see a women with a tiny white child who did not resemble her mother at all she had tan skin like most of the white men but she had hair as dark as his own people and the darkest brown eyes she had brown all most black hair and red lips like a ripe apple. when one of his men saw him he said “chief ! this white women insist you take this child she does not care for ...er....the ‘retch’ as she calls her, then he paused the white women said something and then he said “she says she must go she is running out of time she says you must take the child,he paused again then he spoke she says you must take the child she says that the child is a charm of wars she is luck. she says that if you wish to win tomorrows battle you will take the child. Peta had no hesitation. this must be a sigh! he told his interpreter to tell the women he would take the child.Yes! Edith thought now i may leave and never have to deal with the retch again! but what shall i tell the others? no matter i am free! free of the retch.then without another word Edith left.Peta toke the child and held her and looked at her with loving eyes now he will tell his wife he ran back to his tippy when he was inside he woke his wife, when he had explained about the previous events and showed her the child she almost jumped up with happiness then she said in an excited voice “we should call her ahdahsnuh luck since that is what she is!.” “yes” Peta agreed he smiled now he finally had a daughter. now he would win the battle against the white men! they will leave his land and their would be peace again!. shining sun waited anxiously for her husband to return. The battle against the white men numbered three days now was Peta hurt? were they wining? how many dead? she thought as a million questions buzzed in her head. She must stop and put thoughts thoughts aside. There was work to be done!at the battle Field Peta's men whooped with triumph they were winning! “this battle will end today!” shouted Peta. hes men whooped and shouted in reply. The white men were few only a few were firing with there fire sticks one after another they went down.the men whooped the battle was won! wait! one man at the fort fired. . . peta heard tall hawk let out a loud cry. no! he thought and he rushed to Tall hawks side “Peta.....you....have been....my friend for many moons....” he flinched as he was through in to a fit of coughs “....and i.....i wish i could have stayed......stayed a little longer....but the great spirts our calling me now..” “no no! you will get better you will get well!” Peta wailed “i have a daughter now we have won you must not leave!!” Tall hawk shook his head “ Do not be sad...live on and.. and i will always be there with you do not dwell on sadness....my friend.. great things are still to come...farewell Peta....” “No!” Peta moaned “no” he whispered. Shining Sun cooed and sang to her daughter “Peta will come” she said over and over to her self. “ShiniSun Shining Sun!” cryed one of the young girls “they have come back!!”
