I gave the detective an empty stare. He just let out a big obnoxious hyena laugh.
"That was fun! Friends?" He called out as if nothing had happened.
"Where is my car...I can not be your friend if I do not know your name. If I am fighter, what is your race or family or whatever called?" I said, purposely ignoring his question.
"Name is Rusty. My family race are honored with the bold name of the keepers." He said in a low mumble as if he did not want to even mention the subject he talked so long about before.
"Car?" I questioned.
"Look behind the shed." He said.
He began clapping his hands, making me confused. All of a sudden he just disappeared.
"So he is just gonna leave me hear bewildered?" I mumbled under my breath in clear distaste.
My mom came out all cheerful.
"Who was that cute man that just left?" she asked as if she did not see him disappear.
"Rusty. I would not call him a friend." I said crisply.
I tried to make my way to the shed, but my mom kept saying something that I could not quite understand and she was following me.
"What?" I snapped at her from the pressure of the day and I was also never quite fond of my mom's talkative ways.
"Honey. You finally became a fighter!" My mom called a little too much in cheer.
"I find no reason to be joyed about shadows wanting my blood or the fact of a weird Rusty wanting to befriend me. I just want my normal life back." I said in a drained voice.
I just decided to go back inside. My mom followed me in, but luckily she went to her library. I made my way to my bedroom door and saw my dad in his office with a clearly stressed look on his face. He was always working overtime for his photography company. Sometimes rich people can just relax, but not my family. When I finally got to my room, I practically tripped over my pug, Mugsly. She was just laying in front of my door blending into the carpet like a chameleon. I gave Mugsly the pug a big pat on the head. When I opened my door, I could feel in the air something was not right. I went over to my closet to get a clean change of clothes, being that I had fallen into the lake. As soon as I opened my closet door, my jaw dropped. All my clothes had been traded for hunting boots, sports jackets, black tshirts and leather pants.
"Not fair." I said in clear disgust.
I headed over to my pj drawer and was satisfied that those clothes had stayed the same. I grabbed my favorite fuzzy pj top and my favorite pair of pink pj pottoms. Something touched my shoulder and I screamed.
"I love your pug." I heard Rusty's voice say.
I turned around and gave him the hardest slap on the face I have ever gave someone.
"You hit like a girl. Oh, wait! You are a girl! You will have to toughen up for Moonbay later!" Rusty called.
"What now?" I whined.
"I am your friend and protector. Didn't your mom tell you?" Rusty said.
"I guess she tried." I admitted.
"I am taking the room across the hall. Your mom said I could take that room, being your protector and all." He explained in a deep voice.
With that, he left. I just decided a hot shower would help me relax.
When I was finally done with my shower and in the most comfortable pajamas in the world, I took out my diary and a pen. Unfortunately, Rusty saw me come down the hall and was in the entryway of my bedroom.
"I am also your trainer and teacher. Now would be a good time to give you a one sentence lesson. Do not go outside past midnight." Rusty said in a half coughed out voice.
Then he left. I swear he is the only one that is able to leave without someone saying something. Thud. Thud.
"Ah!" I screamed and held the diary in front of my face like it was the most baddest shield out there.
I felt cold liquid and hot breath on my arm.
"Mugsly!" I screamed at my pug.
Muglsy looked up at me with the most innocent, most cutest face ever. I noticed my clock said midnight. Rusty must love making perfect timing. Just a minute ago he coughing out at me "Do not go out after midnight."
With that, I went to bed.
