The Rise of Africa

Listen to the mighty deep rumble
From far it drifts on endless grassland
The song of nations' awakening
The bravest and strongest shall shudder
From the Cape to far in the North
Rise our voices thundering loud
Clear night skies in harmony replies
Proclaiming strong and bold
It is the Song of youth of Africa
The Dawn of youth of Africa
Echoing through cliffs and canyons
Rolling down hills and valleys
Gliding over vast desolate plains
Over grass fields lakes and forest
Desert, jungle, bush and veld
Beach and rocks and waves and breakers
Pale under the Southern Cross
It is the Dawn of young Africa
The Song of the young of Africa
From the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean
The barren Kalahari sand
To the snow on Mount Kilimanjaro
Fire to fire and kraal to kraal
Carried from village to village
The ancient rhythm drums
Awaken mighty Africa!
Arise the mighty Africa!

The Promised land
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land
among the people,
there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree,
and as the gleaning grapes
when the vintage is done.
They shall lift up their voice,
they shall sing for the majesty of the Lord,
they shall cry aloud from the sea.
Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires,
even the name of the Lord God of Israel
in the isles of the sea
~
For the Lord thy God bringeth thee
into a good land,
a land of brooks of water,
of fountains and depths
that spring out of valleys and hills;
A land of wheat, and barley, and vines,
and fig trees, and pomegranates;
a land of oil olive, and honey;
A land wherein thou shalt eat bread
without scarceness,
thou shalt not lack any thing in it
~
Look down from thy holy habitation,
from heaven, and bless thy people Israel,
and the land which thou hast given us,
as thou swarest unto our fathers,
a land that floweth with milk and honey

The verses are from the King James Bible
Isaiah 24 and Deuteronomy 8 & 26

Inspired by an old Afrikaans patriotic song
“Die Lied van jong Suid-Afrika”.
