It should be easy to forget

My heart, a stray dog,
enlivened by your dead man’s lilies,
pungent, grave-robbed
under iron clouds.
Let’s sit still awhile,
throw more wood on -
I’ll fan the flames
and we’ll surrender to the heat.
Let’s part the sea,
walk between waves,
you can hold the water back,
build unbreakable dams.
Let’s make big plans,
swim upstream, free,
should be simple to stifle history
if we tether down the past.
My heart, a stray dog,
revived by your quixotic lies,
suffocating, grave-robbed
under brimstone hail.
Let’s part ways,
rewrite the ending,
you should be easy to forget
if I bury the memory deep enough.

brilliant! Particularly with relation to countries and old conflicts, like an arm breaking free of the ties, flailing around. It makes me think of the world now, the hurts of the past reinforcing present troubles, history growing restless, like peacetime it is asleep
