Phytoplankton

Imagine you are part of a drift,
powerless to give direction,
pushed and pulled, as you are,
by greater forces.
Imagine you are a seafoam star,
a green galaxy in miniature,
the fundament of a broken chain,
unlinked.
Imagine the sunlight, how it roams you,
how it thickens your hope
even in the brutishness and
unpredictability of life.
Imagine you are in the belly of a krill
in the belly of a whale, and yet
more than equal to them,
that you are as vital
as every other breath.
I happened to catch the end of a programme on BBC 2 this morning and heard a scientist say that phytoplankton were responsible for 50% of the world's oxygen and like every second breath and it made me very thoughtful about small things.

Interesting meditation Rachel
Interesting meditation Rachel.
Sometimes we can feel like we're drifting without control. We as humans are so small when you think of the big picture. I like how you describe us as being an important contributor to life and as you say: as vital as every other breath.
Nice one.
Jenny.

Lovely, onemorething. And
Lovely, onemorething. And what a lovely chain of events and thoughts to your idea, which itself sits in a vast ocean over which we haven't the slightest influence. Or have we?
