“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.
Since then, humans have been drawing energy from creation around them; powers from the Earth; oil, wood, steam, gas, electricity, hydropower, solar energy…but there have also been those who draw powers from the heavens, and sometimes even hell. Magic has been believed to have existed since the times of great dynasties; shamans, sorcerers, witches, wizards…jutsus and chakra have been in use by ninja, samurai, and monks since the times of ancient Japan…ancient, powerful beasts have been caught, subdued and hidden by tamers and knights since the discovery of dragons…and the binding and casting of demons, the likes of ultimate evil has been performed by priests so often now that it has become an art. There are many worlds on earth, much more than one can ever hope to imagine.
When did these kinds of people begin to exist? Why are they here? Nobody knows. All we do know is, they have co-existed with ordinary humans since before anyone had ever considered the possibility. So that is why, they exist in the overlap of times, and of plains…they are the ones who call the human world the Riaru Seken. And, that one small mishap on either plane of existence; human, heaven, or hell, can push the peace of all worlds on Earth to the brink of destruction.
A great example of such a mishap would be when a certain young onmyouji—like so many others before him—decided they would summon a spirit. Any kind of course, as long as it was powerful; to prove to their master; the elder of the temple, that they were ready to take on the family name. The unfortunate boy had managed to summon—by great miscalculation and fool hearty excitement caused by youth—a powerful demon, a succubus. But it wasn't just any succubus--it was the culmination of all seven sins.
…needless to say, this demon possessed a woman (as most do), a beautiful geisha, who was in love with the son of a revered ninja warrior and a powerful Clan Lord. By the hand of great misfortune that was allowed to fall the beautiful young girl, she gave birth to two children that were at the same time hers and yet not hers. Half demon—Gotta Tenma—of mixed existence.
