First day at MBA college

Before IIMU, I thought an MBA was a person who applies some logic to solve the problems, used management jargon and knew concepts and all which can answer some industry problems
(In fact among IT people, we use to think that, we know technical and management will be an excellent add on as we already know the problem, learning some concepts will help to solve these)
On reaching IIMU (June '19), our first session was a demo class on Robin hood's problems, and it was a strategy class. We had to read a case study for the class.
The Prof taking the class was a skinny, easy looking guy called Shaleen Gopal.
He started with a question about the case.
Some people leaping with confidence, holding their heads high started telling solutions to the problems which Robin hood faced on a day to day basis. They
were well articulated, used some cool management terms (which they read a night before to make an impression), and underlying logics
SG sir, kept on saying, you are right on whatever you are saying, but what is the main problem and how could we avoid it in the future. Tearing down each and every response by the students
He would ask fundamental questions and leave the entire class thinking. Everyone thought on a micro level or for the solutions to a particular problem. No one thought of a long term or permanent solution. (In that case, as his crew was growing, Robin hood been facing decision-making problems relating to few steps on different fronts. The key was to bring a hierarchy in the team so that work can be divided, but we as a class focused on the micro problems)
That day we learnt two lessons. One, think before you speak.
Two - a good MBA isn't a guy who applied some underlying logics to solve some problems. What's critical is a fundamental understanding of the issues (either business or internal), expressed merely and thinking about it on the macro level and impact of our decisions.
Now it has been a year in IIMU, and many sessions went by. But still, that introductory class is one of the best classes I remember.
