I would have had the guts
To ask you in
Or to have opened my mouth
When you kissed me on the steps
Of the library
Or made a meal of these ingredients:
A yes in some eyes
A breath let out slowly
A finger placed across my wrist
Like a bracelet.
But I am no maker
Questions and answers clotting my throat
And my lips a firm door
Inches thick, bolted shut
Like the door of a safe.
Keeping me safe.
