Dear dairy,
hectic. World spinning so fast at the moment. Hanging on by my fingernails again. Not a lot of purchase as they are clipped short for guitar. Had a rare moment of being one with the guitar last night. Like having Jack the cat curled on my lap. As with most things, I'm not much cop at the guitar, but now and again we reach one another. Back to practicalities tonight and Spanish tomorrow night. Work I don't count.
Crazy dreams again last night. That old chestnut of being given a lorry to drive but not having the right license to drive it. It was an artic. Loaded up with steel. I did the walk-round, checked the load and jumped up in the cab. I can drive rigids so no problem there. I swung out of the yard and drove through the city. All the time it was bugging me that I didn't have a license for this thing.
I headed over to my mam's and parked the truck on the road outside her house. I decided that was it. I wasn't taking it any further. This could cost me my job.
The agency I worked for was a walk away on the industrial estate. I headed over on foot. The place was busy when I got there. Vehicles coming and going. Drivers I knew coming up and down the stairs to the office, a long shed above the warehouse. I felt stupid as I wandered up to the desk. Tony, the boss, was a nice bloke. Had a few scrapes himself.
"Alright Kev?" he asked brightly. "I thought you were out."
I explained my predicament. He told me to grab a cup of tea while he rang the customer. I told you he was a decent bloke. I've been blessed with a few of those when it mattered. A few of the other type, too.
A few minutes later, I was walking over to my mam's with Jeremy, a big bearded Kentuckian I know. He was the relief driver. I reckon Jeremy is a decent bloke, too.
Don't know where this is all going, but I'm going to work. Another journey within a journey.
Over to you Ryan Bingham. You do this whole thing so much better than me. Too smug by half.
So long.
