Welcome!
to the Cirque d'Obscene
where the ugly
procure the unsightly
and Romantics should never be seen
Where zombies progress through a labyrinth
propelling trolleys piled high
with fake fixtures and furniture
bearing faux Scandinavian nomenclature
and there is no route to the sky
If you survive the meatballs
and clear the marketplace
make it as far as the exit
remember me and send help
get me out of this Dantean shit

This is autobiographical and while I do not understand it very well I am sure there is a lot of personal symbolism in the poem. It strikes me as being bitter yet it bears a strong and powerful message. I like the references to Scandinavia and Dante and am sure they mean much more than I can comprehend. Reminds me a bit about my own poetry and how enigmatic it may seem to others.

I am going there next month- but not to browse- I have only been there once before and Yes it was horrible. Didn't taste the meatballs though- had chips and ice-water. It was terribly stressful and I agree not nearly as charming as a Spanish market. There is this song on danish radio about a couple who have a huge row while trying to agree on what they are going to buy in Ikea- they almost split up. it's really funny. We also say that if you can pass the Ikea test you will stay toegther for life. I wouldn't want to try it but then I have no need to. I'm going to buy cheap carpets.can't afford anything more expensive.

Hi Parsons, it was great to meet you on Friday! Sorry I couldn't stay for a longer chat afterwards, I thought it best to get myself to bed ;-) Really love this. I almost lost it at: "with fake fixtures and furniture
bearing faux Scandinavian nomenclature" and that final line really made me chuckle. Brilliant poem!
