Crescent moon

The moon looks nice tonight.

Slowly setting.

I expect Venus is up there somewhere too. Like the Turkish flag.

I think of you and your friend watching a crescent moon just like this one, or maybe it's already gone. Or maybe you have better things to do.

The laptop is quiet. I lean back for the first time today and sip at a vodka martini. Bad habit, but no one's looking.

Meanwhile, nothing happens.

I think I'm ok with that, but I'm probably missing something.

God, I hope I don't get old.

Well, I hope you do get old because I want to keep reading poems like this. 'The laptop is quiet .....no one is looking' - that line stands out to me, along with visualization of what might be going on far away. Very gentle and wistful.

:-) Thank you for caring, Bee. I had been thinking of giving up trying to write poetry. Still am. Not sure any of it really could be classed as such. This is just a thought. Maybe an aside. One half of an imagined conversation in confidence. I don't want to try to be writing an a "style" or following some formula. It's probably no surprise that I'm enjoying Jack Kerouac a lot in the last year or so. I worry about what I'll do when I run out of his books. Find someone else, I suppose. ".moon looks nice.." is intentional. Can't remember who first told me not to use "nice". Well this moon looks nice.
