Imaginings at Tebay

I told her: “I’ll go and see the Lakes
If the weather’s not too bad.”
Of course, it’s pissing down
But I thought I’d go and see the lakes
If not the fells
So I’m rolling along the 65
Listening to the radio:
Desert Island Discs.
Imagining my own success
“I used to spend as much time
Outside my body as in it.
Not always a good thing.”
I listened to myself
A field of ponies over to my left
Three of them, facing into rain
The nearest one is pissing
A healthy horse piss
The expression on her face cracks me up
I’m laughing
Tears begin to blur the road
And I realise that I’m crying
I ought to stop
But the road is narrow, winding
Cars in front and behind
It’ll pass
It always does
The radio distracts
The rain intensifies
Never let a writer
Drive you to the airport
If you do
And you catch them smiling to themselves
Ask, politely, to be let out

A fine poem, Kevin
So much detail and so personal. I liked the obsevation of the horses. You might not believe this, but I once went to the lake when the weather was good, got bitten to death by midges tho'
All the other times it rained but I wouldn't say pissed down, except once.

I like how you made me change
I like how you made me change direction - I thought it was going to be wandering lonely as a cloud stuff, and then you had the pony :0) Nothing so down to earth as pee. The way you go from crying to laughing made me think of seeing cloud shadows race over sunny hills when I went to the Lake district

I too like the story of it,
I too like the story of it, the realistic observation. The naturalness of the moment.
