Parenthood

Each clean sheet
a unique personality
An individual
gift to the world

What do we do?

We take it
we break it
and make it like us

Innocent eyes
watch us perform
and they learn

The first thing to go
is trust

We show that
to get what you want
in the world
to lie and cheat is a must

I'll say it again

Parenthood
is the art
of screwing up
the next generation

We show them how
to argue and fight
and teach them
to bury their hurt

We find a way
to extinguish the light
from their smile
as we harden their heart

And we don't even know
that we're doing it

Parenthood
is the art
of screwing up
the next generation

You get from a life
what's put into it
And suffer
for what you leave out

Fear and ignorance
are bliss
And all opportunity
is too good to miss

For humanity
reaps what it sows
And not even wealth
guarantees success

As everyone knows

I've screwed up! sometimes it works out- sometimes it goes wrong and everybody gets hurt but the good moments I cherish. I think it is difficult being a Mum, sometimes.

I didn't cover myself in glory. I think even "happy" "secure" families screw their kids up. You see a kind of purity and simplicity in small children. My two grandchildren for example. But the tell-tale signs are there. Maybe what I have in mind is unattainable, like many other things seem to be.
