Dummy (Poetry monthly)

Found on one pavement: a baby's dummy,
chewy-sweet wrappers, lime mortar
from a window lintel, undefinable slime,
a shop receipt someone stood on,
shards of green bottle,
footprints I can't see. Imprints
I want to capture with a plaster mould,
cast in dull aluminium, beat
into flat sheets for an aeroplane wing.
Then I'll polish the soft metal,
watch the rivets strain as it lifts
and I'll look down on the lattice of streets.

This is gorgeous. I like how
This is gorgeous. I like how it transforms in to something new, the dull suddenly echoes with change and exquisite movement.

Lintel is such a beautiful word, such a beautiful poem, how wonderful to move from close up to a soaring perspective, such a sense of freedom.
