The Tower

Among a field of fruitless flowers
In a ghostly glade among the trees
Built of stone there stands a tower
None can reach, nor the breeze
Upon the glade stumbles a traveler
Long he traveled, foot sore and weary
His momentary wish, sleep to incur
Until he spots the tower dreary
Calling upon the resident of the spire
He eagerly awaits a companion
Whom he may request a room to retire
And through a window dark as raven
There shines a candles burning wick
Ever closer it approaches
Revealing the flame bearer with every flick
Through the glass his vision encroaches
Until the moss covered door begins to crack
And his attention is shifted to the woman
Who walked through the hallway black
Struck dumb was the traveling woodsman
Never had he seen such amazing grace
Simply put he was left astounded
By the beauty of this woman’s face
And the mistress was left confounded
As to why the man said not a word
But wait! He found his voice
“This might, my lady, sound absurd
“But believe how my heart does rejoice
“At first glance I can tell
“You are the reason I walk this land
“O! how my heart does swell”
To her heart she raised her hand
With music to his ears she replies
“Nor sir, can I explain
“How my heart feels as a sunrise
“And this feeling will surely remain”
And so the two began a romance
Love, like the world has never seen
Every night in the flowers they did dance
He was her love and she his queen
But alas, one day a darkness consumed the land
And the man was forced to leave his love
To fight the evil and make good his stand
He could send not a word, not by hand or by dove
His lady love became quite concerned
But in her heart she knew
While her love still burned
The man would make it through
As love would have it the day came
When the war weary man did return
Though while fighting he won much fame
There was but one reason his heart did burn
The love of the lady of the tower
Who had waited day and night
And watched through the fields and flower
For the love of her life to reunite
