A Divine Gift
P K Routray
A charismatic figure
that the Lord could configure
with traits uniquely divine
in a calm composure shrine
as if, in it, Baladevaji ascended His throne
to exhibit the world His brotherly affection
to make everybody, his own
even antagonist and unknown.
Of Tulashikhetra, a befitting breed
Rabibhai was a person rare indeed!
being one, among the five siblings
all genius thanks to Baldevaji’s blessings
dedicated themselves to the nation and abroad
leaving Rabhbhai behind to serve the Lord
and the society where they were born and grown
who looked at them with a lot of expectation.
Rabibhai did the wonder on behalf of all
his service, no impediments could stall.
As a token of gratitude on behalf of me and all
bent knee, bow down I to salute to the departed soul
Neither I am from his relation
not knotted to him by social obligation,
a mere friend of his younger brother
bonded with him at my life’s late hour
I am indebted to him for his boundless affection
as if Lord gave me another brother for protection.
I often feel with blood in tears
as if Rabibhai in person appears
to kill my ego
as always he told me so
a word synopsizing the entire Hindu philosophy
and a passport, to Him to flee
Where he must be resting in bliss and peace
“ Hey, Baldevaji! Your love for him should never cease.”
Thus we all pray in one voice at you altar
as on his journey behind and ahead, you are the author.”
(N , B Rabi Bhai is the elder brother of my friend a professor t Alaska. I knew him five years back but was too impressed by his brotherly affection. He expired due to heart ailments on 18.9.2018. It is a tribute gor him on his Sradhadaya.)
