Ecology and Wisdom
P K Routray
Once a disciple staying in monastery
approached Budha saint the holy
for a piece of cloth to put on
as the earlier cloth was tattered and torn.
Budh ordered for him a new one,
with the cloth the disciple left for his monastic session
After a day or two during a routine visit to the monastery,
To the disciple Lord Budh made a query,
“Are you well with the new attire?
Do anything further you require?”
Nothing further, oh sir!
“I am satisfied with the new attire.”
“What did you do with old attire?”Asked the saint,
“ It is being used as a bed spread,” was the reply by the student.
“What happened to the old bed spread?” inquired the master.
“It is being used as window curtain.” was the reply by the follower.
“What happened to the old curtain?”asked the revered teacher.
“It is being used in kitchen to hold heated pots.” was the humble answer.
“What happened to the cloth in the kitchen?” inquired the spiritual leader,
“It is being used to clean the floor of the room.” replied the disciple without fear of any danger.
“What happened to the old cleaning cloth?”asked monk the great.
“It is being used as wicks in the lamp as it is badly torn.” the disciple did state.
with a smile of contentment the Lord returned to the hermitage,
leaving on ecology and environment for humanity a message.
