Empty Amidst Plenty
P K Routray
The more exciting news on pleasure and politics keeps us away and unaware of our brethren’s strife,
That Tuvalu a tiny Pacific nation is in shortage of drinking water the bare necessity of life.
Situated in the largest ocean with water all-around,
In this age of advanced science and technology enabling man to reach moon, with the news the entire world must have gone spellbound.
Its other neighboring nation Tokelau is also facing a similar situation,
These nations are crying for water to catch worldwide attention.
This is an indication of the furry and fuming of ecology,
Hey man, do not be selfish and greedy as all these types of calamities cannot be challenged by any human ingenuity and technology.
Let us join hands to live in cooperation with fellow feeling and a sense of equality,
And nurture the nature and protect the environment with solidarity.
Treat all men as our brethren irrespective of nationality, caste and creed,
And live in harmony with nature without any semblance of a group and personal greed.
The cases of tsunami and the emergency in
Tuvalu and Tokelau teach us a lesson,
Let us reflect on our activities and conserve energy, save the environment and shun the pollution.
If we become a cause or sheer and silent observer to the extinction of a part of the creation,
Be sure your end is also not far and the same cause will be the cause of your destruction.
