An evening
P K Routray
With love platonic,
bondage titanic
towards their friends dear
finally settled at Bhubaneswar,
enlightened as students together
at the same Alma-mater,
half a century back
a relationship that time cannot hack,
braving the physical strain
with excitation on the mental plane
of meeting some after a long separation,
almost fifty years since graduation,
our Pillai couple
made us to buckle
under their load of affection
not by Mr. Pillai alone
but Madam Pillai in addition
“What a Rengcollian unification!”
expressed over a get-together
in an evening at Marion Bhubaneswar
over frantic fun fare, drinks and dinner,
Kali as usual acting superbly as the anchor.
Rabi came with a dress of grand kid’s style
“Though toothless, similar to them we cannot smile.”
Thus with Rabi we had forgotten
that our such days have gone
we are replaced by a third generation.”
Refrained me from such thoughts, the sound of jubilation
Lala’s song, Brahmas lyric, Gopal’s Mukesh
jaded spirit, dropping energy got enlivened afresh.
Diabetes, heart diseases all ailments were forgotten
at them the energized spirit of youth started making fun.
Spouses overcame their age and joint pain.
with loud laughter, they seemingly became college girls again.
The evening turned late night without our notice,
proving the Einstein theory of relativity in real practice.
Let such Pillais evenings make our evening of life joyful
Hey Pilai family! For your love, to you we are grateful.
Pray we jointly for one another to the Lord
for health and happiness till we depart for His abode.
(N.B= We belong to 1970 batch of engineers from R E C Rourkela. Our classmate Mr Surendra Pillai came from dubai after his SriLanka tour all the way to meet us his classmates at Bhubaneswar. Some of them he met after 49 years.. We had an evening get together with his family.)
