Forbidden apple
P K Routray
What a beautiful site!
sure to increase the appetite
I am jealous of the lady in the picture
plucking an apple at her whim and pleasure
choosing the healthy one from among the lot
by her stretching hand, whichever apple can be brought.
Can such blissful sight be ever behold by this mortal eye,
by whatever pesticides and artificial methods the man can try?
It reminds us the story of Adam, Eve and forbidden apple,
temptation by Satan, wisdom on good and bad and the sin’s shackle.
God drove Adam and Eve out of Garden of Eden
where such trees must be appearing in plenty with apples laden.
Why we do not find trees with such gifts of heavenly beauty
as because we are trapped by Satan, the devil to resort to the forbidden duty?
Many such tempting offers and snares in life are set by Satan
We get enticed and fail to get the bliss similar to the sight of this apple tree of the heaven.
(N B The poem is written keeping in view a picture of a lady plucking apple from an apple tree full of apples some ripe some are not.)
