A forgotten transport
P K Routray
Population explosion
wireless communication
micro chips storing information,
frozen food for consumption,
missile and jet for transportation,
maddening crowd and fast life’s expectation,
this bullock cart cannot come up to meet
both man behind and bullocks in front hence have to exit.
The bullocks loved this cart and the burden,
the touch of affection with human passion,
the luxuriant grass and rice water as master’s ration,
their master’s tunes on the way to the destination.
Amidst meadows, under patchy shades of green trees
hilly mountain terrain with cool soothing breeze
in moon lit night, cool morning and evening of summer
under the friendly heat of the midday sun of winter
they go on pulling with pleasure the loaded cart
at times with men and at times with materials to destined part.
They love the fluttering of birds, running animals’ play
mitigating their exhaustions, looking at the forest on the way.
Aware are they of the plight of their brethren at present age
hardly they see the nature at its best being in the fenced cage.
Females for milk, males are meant for flesh,
Injected are they artificial nutrition their life is in mesh.
The man behind the cart is illiterate and uncultured
but with peace and bliss this life he keeps it well nurtured,
talking with bullocks, singing with nature to the tune of his own
unlike his brethren with fast moving life without rest and recreation
Yes the present day burden he, his cart and bullocks cannot carry
but for the life of his brethren of now and of future he does worry.
(N.B A bullock cart is a vehicle dragged by bullocks and can travel in any difficult road. this poem is written keeping the cart in view)
