“I” Gets Hurt
P K Routray
As usually advised by a doctor
and as practiced since days of yore
daily I go for an early morning walk
out from my house by morning 5 o clock
going up a hill for distance of two miles or so.
Many walkers of various age group also daily go.
Breathing loudly through my mouth and nose
to get strength and stamina to keep me on toes,
perspire profusely usually I proceed daily on my way.
For rest and restoration of breathe at places I do stay.
when I reach the peak after the successful struggle
I rest for a while to get rejuvenated for the return battle
to come downward with youthful vivacity and vigor
at the end of walk I feel I am young not a citizen senior.
But I must tell my miserable feelings thrust upon me on the way
when young friends alien to this track, seeing me they say
“Hey old uncle we must help you to reach your residence”
accusing the passersby and my kith and kin for their negligence.
They never know that this is my daily battle to stay fit and young
I only nod with dissatisfaction, as being breathe I cannot prove them wrong..
I feel my indomitable will to stay young gets a jolt by such extended hand
pushing me to accelerate on my decaying path to my funeral grand.
“Hey noble young men! keep your charitable character hidden within you
Do not push me forcibly and prematurely to be incapably old before it is due.”
Let him within a sr citizen remain afloat on his past glory of childhood and youth with care
It is hard for him to be called as grand papa by jenny the sweet sixteen jumping from her. chair.
