Indian Election
P K Routray
“I am one among you
vote for me and make me through.”
Woo the candidates in their election gusto
with their usual alluring election manifesto
promising the public to bring the heaven down
with opulence and plenty everybody they will drown.
With tall promises and rare humility
with tones of truth and sincerity
they trap the public to vote in their favor
after wining for five years then they invariably disappear.
In general this is the experience of Indian voters
with experiences worsening from bitter to bitterer.
We find from the experience of democracy of sixty-five years
instead of king and his descendant’s ruling, rule some ruling clan through their sons and daughters.
The son and grandson and great grandson of the present ministers
are groomed to take over from their family profession for future years
The drop outs from schools and colleges with criminal background
are eighty percent of the candidates contesting this election as found
Eighty percent candidates are billionaires as per their declaration
Sure to multiply their family wealth from their elected chairs through corruption
poor people, honest people, philanthropic people with proven capability
dare not to contest the others adopting dishonesty and criminal activity.
Votes from literates and illiterates have equal worth
but the vote from illiterate poor can be easily purchased for winning a berth.
Being crushed under poverty and misery they have no strength to look into future
One square meal or false promises or a penny on their hands make them their democratic right to surrender.
With this scenario helpless feel the literate conscious and honest masses
as to whether such democracy can give real freedom, one has to assess.
This is not to offend my mother land with glorius past and tradition
This is only a prayer to the Almighty to incarnate to finish such culprits increasing out of proportion.
