Joy Of Living Together
P K Routray
A photo of my kith and kin together
with me, my mother, father, grandmother,
my brothers, sisters both elder and younger
and cousins of mine with their mother and father,
provokes me to ink my first hand experiences and observation
as to how did this family live at least over this generation.
A mediocre standard of living this family possessed
run without chaos at the grand oldest lady’s behest.
She by being at the highest rung of the family ladder
was respected most and acknowledged as the leader.
Most of the members of family grew on her lap and shoulder
even at that age for solace and soothing I ran to her.
Under her rule love dominated over truth and justice.
Hence for all under one roof one kitchen, three rooms could suffice.
The cooperation, sub delegation and job distribution for each deed
was based on sacrifice and love devoid of jealousy, ego and greed!
The income and expenditure were on her finger tips clean and transparent
the old lady ignorant of counting and recording met individual’s requirement.
Always wants were kept trimmed to match the total supply
love and affection ruled, smoke of inner turmoil and dirt was forced to die.
Kids were more comfortable with aunts than their mothers
to the great grand mum run they when they doubt help from others.
The old age home and paid nursing care as required today
were out of imagination as serving elders was the divine duty of the day.
Now I feel the absence of the aura created by such well-knit family
That planted positive traits in its members from childhood early.
In the western world the readers might have forgotten such joint living
But me here who lived this life, swears “This living is forever worth cherishing,”
(Sorry I couldnot contasin the length because of emotional outbrust)

It was nice to read of a family that worked hard to stay together, which can be so hard to do at times.
