My Dad and Mom
Forty years along with father
forty years after he left her
their burden Mom took care
with willpower, seen rare.
Father was an all-rounder
to it, his talent, being propeller
but behind it was our mother.
Bodybuilding to dramatist
farming, poultry to artist
mother’s nod affirmative
for him was an impulse positive.
Dad usecd to play flute, harmonium
tuning new rhythms before mom
at my early age captivated me, they all
but I failed to assimilate the intrinsic call..
Mom and dad’s morning tea
to their harmony was the key.
Mom used to fire the jute cane
to make the tea in aluminum pane
both used to sip trees gossiping pleasant
a sight to me is still vivid and vibrant.
Hey Da! Hey Mom I miss you.
Hey cruel time! Sso fast you flew.
A sight to me is still vivid and vibrant
Miss them, I, with the time pleasant.
Mom’s safe was an earthen pot
to put coins with an opening slot
thrifty mum dropped in it, coins small
hoping to get after a year, a big haul.
But Dad’s burglary with tact deft
made mom unaware of the theft
as he put led pebbles in the pot
but for me, father, she caught.
In my dad mom’s fights bitter
I sided generally with my father.
But once my dad interrupted me
“Do not hurt her, your mom is she”
An appealing voice vibrating in me
his love for mother as I could see.
In floods that hit us every year
at times river frowns bitter
In a room mom used to sit and cry
but dad used to go to the bank to try
to retrieve logs of floating trees
and aid the refugees in distress
with their shelter and return process.
Left my dad early on sudden
for his journey towards heaven
leaving behind the burden
for mom to shoulder upon.
For forty years there after
she was her offspring’s torch bearer
illumining their path to wisdom
so that to earthly frowns they do not succumb.
