To my friends’ Spouses with a friend’s love
P K Routray
To my friends’ loving spouses
with earnest apologies for excuses
on behalf of your hubby and my friend
for some unspelled truths here are penned
to let you know how much to you he did love or lie.
that You must truly know him before a final good bye.
A friend knows his friend better than his friend’s wife
because of growing together sharing tit bits since the tender age of life.
Our friends are neither demon nor divine deity
but a vexing mixture of traits of demon and divinity.
While conversing love with you with full attention
like a butterfly his lust might take him to a beauty unknown.
His binocular ranges from seventeen to seventy
Our adolescent analysis has instilled in my friend such notoriety.
Of Course as true friends from a pact in life we never did depart.
“Adore we the lady who occupies even temporarily our friend’s heart.”
You have murmured that you received a present from us in the rarest occasion
but we cherish the pride hidden in your eye displaying it to your companion.
Fastidious remained your taste we failed to satisfy ever
and your penetrating whisper we always did fear.
“Woman remains ever a mystery” we discussed in our students days
With experience of five decades with you the saying remains ablaze.
Once isolated from you over a mug of beer we had a discussion
to find out a formula “To easily satisfy a wife” for younger generation
it looked too big a proposition beyond our comprehension
similar to an attempt to drink out all water of the pacific ocean.
Once after our superannuation we had a brainstorming session
as to how much we prize you as our this life’s possession
“If we get a chance to go back to those days just after college
and the Almighty offers a choice to opt on a girl for our marriage
with new one being besieged with uncertainty unknown
or old one that are you with your mystery so far as known’
out of two choices we chose you without hesitation
as “ known devil is better than angel unknown.”
It is a lighter vein pronunciation
but underlies our deep love for you from our heart’s bottom.
Some of you younger in age have left our friends leaving him alone
We pray for their departed souls with our friends in unison.
From the friends of your husband accept our gratitude
for serving our friend through thick thin of difficulties of mammoth magnitude
serving him when he is frustrated with life
shouldering and sharing the burden of his strife
serving him when he is ill nursing him from his bedside
controlling him as his mother did when he was child.
